Fashion designer Jukka Rintala returns to Finlandia Hall with his second exhibition, looking ahead to Finland’s upcoming 110th anniversary of independence in 2027. Inspired by the great success of his 2025 exhibition at Finlandia Hall, this new exhibition is part of Finland’s national celebrations.
Jukka Rintala’s exceptional skills in fashion design and painting, combined with the exhibition design expertise of his long-time creative partner Matti Vaskelainen, result in art of the highest calibre. Their collaborations, which began in 1985, have delighted audiences with immersive experiences in which magnificent gowns, the intricate lines of textiles, and the delicate beauty of paintings come together in harmony.
Finlandia Hall inspired Rintala to create a majestic blue-and-white pattern, which has been used in silk and cotton products for fashion and interior design. In honour of Finnish craftsmanship, the products are made in Finland. The exhibition also features stunning one-of-a-kind evening gowns, paintings, and tableware. Finlandia Hall provides a grand setting for presenting Jukka Rintala’s life’s work.
Jukka Rintala has received numerous prestigious awards in recognition of his achievements. In 2006, he was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal by the President of the Republic of Finland. His other honours include the Savonlinna Medal in 2008, Kultainen Vaatepuu Award in 2012, and the Fashion Ambassador Award at the Elle Style Awards in 2012. His close creative partner Matti Vaskelainen has played an important role in supporting his work.
Jukka Rintala graduated in fashion design from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1976. Since then, he has designed clothing for several Finnish companies, including Friitala, Marimekko, Nanso, and Suomen Höyhen, as well as jewellery for Aarikka. In 2007, he designed a unique collection of designer jewellery for the jeweller A. Tillander. Production of his eponymous collection began in 2008.
Theatre has also played an important role in Jukka Rintala’s career. He designed the costumes for Svenska Teatern’s production of the musical My Fair Lady (2003–2004). Together with Matti Vaskelainen, he designed the costumes and sets for Seinäjoki City Theatre’s musical production Muukalaisia yössä (2006–2007), Kokkola Opera Association’s operetta Lepakko (2007–2008) and Finnish Music Theatre’s production of Palatsin Piukat Paikat (2009). In 2019, he designed the costumes for a production of Lokki in Hanko.
