Autumn at Finlandia Hall – music, ballet, exhibitions, and experiences

Autumn at Finlandia Hall includes international stars, classical ballet, comedy and music from the 1920s Berlin atmosphere to blues and Nordic folk music.

Alongside concerts and performances, autumn offers art, Alvar Aalto’s architecture and culinary experiences in Finlandia Hall’s restaurants. Of course, the building itself is a sight worth seeing: designed by Alvar Aalto, Finlandia Hall is one of Helsinki’s most iconic landmarks and part of the Aalto Works ensemble, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Pick your favorites from the autumn program!

October: international stars and the magic of classical ballet

The autumn concert season kicks off spectacularly in October when Max Raabe & Palast Orchester brings their Night and Day tour to Finlandia Hall for two nights on 2–3.10. The German baritone star and legendary orchestra combine the glamour, jazz, and cabaret of 1920s-30s Berlin with sophisticated humor and nostalgia.

10.10. At Finlandia Hall, we will hear the harmonies that rose to global fame from social media when the Dad Harmony group arrives to perform. The a cappella group of five Swedish fathers is known for their warm interpretations and strong harmonies.

15.10. Wardruna takes the Finlandia Hall to different Nordic atmospheres. The Norwegian band’s music draws from Scandinavian ancient beliefs and nature, incorporating sounds from traditional Nordic instruments as well as wood, stones, bones, water, and fire.

Right after Wardruna, the Danish band Laid Back will perform at Finlandia Hall, with hits like Sunshine Reggae, White Horse, and Bakerman that have been with listeners for over four decades. An evening of familiar hits and nostalgia awaits!

After these concerts, classical ballet will take over Finlandia Hall when British Festival Ballet presents Swan Lake on 22–23.10. This classic based on Tchaikovsky’s music brings the story of Odette and Odile to Finlandia Hall, interpreted skillfully by an international ballet company.

November: blues, entertainment, and Father’s Day delicacies

4.11. At Finlandia Hall, we will enjoy the powerful blues rock voice of Beth Hart. The American artist, who has had a long international career, is known for her intense live performances and is familiar to Finnish audiences from events like Pori Jazz and the sold-out concert at Allas Pool.

We smoothly transition into the Christmas party season with 5–7.11. Jarkko Tamminen’s Stars Show. In this revue-style singing imitation show, Tamminen imitates and parodies over 40 familiar characters from the worlds of music, entertainment, sports, and politics. You can also purchase a Dinner&Show package for this experience and other delicacies — a perfect programmatic Christmas party set makes organizing the celebration much easier.

On the Father’s Day weekend, 7–8.11. Finlandia Cafe&Wine will serve a lavish festive brunch. Alongside seasonal savory and sweet delicacies, you can enjoy the café’s atmosphere and appreciate Alvar Aalto’s timeless design by Töölönlahti Bay.

Classical Aalto and impressive glass art

An experience at Finlandia Hall does not always require an event ticket. Visions of Alvar Aalto is a permanent exhibition at Finlandia Hall that uniquely opens up the lives, work, and thoughts of Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto. The exhibition has been scripted by Kirsti Manninen and features unprecedented material from the Aalto estate.

Until the end of October, Finlandia Showroom will showcase the exhibition Broken Hands, which presents Soile Yli-Mäyry’s colorful paintings and impressive massive glass sculptures that are on display in Helsinki for the first time.

During your visit to the exhibition, be sure to stop by Finlandia Cafe&Wine, as you will receive a 10% discount on café products with a Visions of Alvar Aalto exhibition ticket. The discount also applies at Finlandia Shop, where it concerns Finlandia Collection products.

Visions of Alvar Aalto is a Museum Card destination, and there are also benefits for Museum Card holders, such as a day’s bun and coffee for a combined price of €6.50. See more information on the café’s pages!

It’s also worth keeping in mind that you can come to Finlandia Hall just for the sake of it, and there is no admission fee to the building.

Welcome to watch, experience, enjoy, and spend time – see you this autumn at Finlandia Hall!
