Photographer Laura Oja’s photos tell the story of Rwandan girls who are sewing a better future for themselves and Rwanda. The young tailors have participated in World Vision’s vocational education in the Rulindo region of northern Rwanda.
The training programme includes young people from challenging circumstances, such as school dropouts and teenage mothers. Each year, around 250 young people receive vocational and entrepreneurial education and support for starting a business through the programme.
Laura Oja’s photos and the texts of journalist Eveliina Lauhio were originally published in Sunnuntaisuomalainen as a report titled “Huomisen muoti” (“Tomorrow’s fashion”).
World Vision Finland protects children and defends their rights around the world. We work to ensure that every child and young person has the opportunity to get an education and find a livelihood. We have been working against mutilation and child marriage for over 20 years. We also protect mothers and girls in sudden crises, such as in the midst of the war in Ukraine.
